  1. The quick fix vocal training – This is a quick and easy trick that makes you sound so much better in an instant, thus it’s called the quick fix so I call. Say A-E-I-O-U and watch your jaw movement in the mirror, pay attention. Did your jaw close on any of the vowels? It’s very likely that your jaw are closed when you say the E and the U or even maybe that your jaw are closed on all the vowels. What we want to do is for you to speak those vowels without your jaw closing so, take two fingers and pull your jaw down about 2 inches or use a plastic bottle cap to act as a lever to open your jaw. Say the vowels again. It’s going to feel weird and uncomfortable for you but keep doing it. We’re trying to re-program muscle memory so that when you sing to a vowel your jaw will stay open. Now sing the vowels on a steady one pitch. A-E-I-O-U. Keep repeating this exercise until you can do it. Then the next step is to sing a phrase of one of your songs – and make sure your jaw opens to the same position on all of your vowels. Practice this technique before it becomes natural, like everything else the more you practice the faster you will program this technique to your muscle memory. And you might be one of those lucky ones who will notice the improvement in the sound right away.

Think Down on High Notes – When you try to sing higher notes, try thinking of the way an elevator operates, a heavy weight is attached to a pulley and as the weight pulls down, the elevator actually goes up. So, the top floor is reached when the weight on the pulley is the heaviest. Similarly, you should use the most “weight” on the highest notes. This may sound confusing and you might not understand it but just give it a go and pay attention.
  3. More Power without Strain – This is a simple vocal training technique to apply. Just keep your chin pointed slightly down and your pectorals slightly flexed when you go for more power. You will feel that you naturally want to reach forward and lift your chin up when you sing with more power but try to resist this. While it may temporarily work, it could cause vocal problems.  Tipping your chin down not only works better and saves your voice – it improve your singing and it actually sounds better! Use the mirror. Sing an Ah scale up and down in one phrase motion. Keep chin pointing towards the floor and don’t let your head move up as you raise the pitch. Keep it firmly in place. Go all the way higher the scale of your voice while maintaining this position. You will notice that the chin wants to move up when you raise pitch. Keep it planted. Did you notice that your pitch has more power and less strain? Yes! Practice this until it becomes second to natural.
  4. Listen to Your Voice – A melodic vocal tone is not established by singing loudly—it’s established at medium volume. Great sounding tone occurs when vocal folds are strong enough to have a good closure but not touch. Releasing too much air creates a “breathy” tone and releasing too little air creates a “nasal” tone. You need to create a perfect balance to produce wonderful tone.
